assorted color books

Shadow Work Journals are a new and upcoming trend in the journal-tok space! As more and more innovative methods are created to make journaling inclusive, everyone and again a gem spawns from the rough.

Thank you for reading this post! If you want to support my archive you can buy me a coffee!

The concept of shadow work journaling has gained significant traction, because of the unorthodox method of acknowledging one’s insecurities outright.

In my blog post, I really want to dive into what shadow work journaling is, the significance and benefits, and outline what my shadow work journal template does to help you achieve your goals!

What is Shadow Work Journaling?

The coined term Shadow Work is rooted in Jungian psychology, revolving around delving deep into the unconscious aspects that make you…YOU. The parts we hide, repress and deny, shadow work journaling provides an inclusive space to explore these facets of yourself.

Imagine having a space where you get to fundamentally acknowledge every part of yourself that you wouldn’t be able to publicly. That’s really important. Because (and this is coming from a 20 year old) as you get older, the amount of time you get to look at yourself dwindles between work and social responsibilities.

Benefits of a Shadow Work Journal

  1. Self Discovery and Awareness
It’s so easy to lose yourself amongst all the clutter of everyday life, and shadow work makes it a lot easier when taking a step back and focusing in. By acknowledging and understanding our shadow aspects, we gain insight into our behaviors, patterns, and aura.

You don’t often get this breath of knowledge when scrapbook journaling or brain dump journaling. So a shadow work journal fills a great medium here.

  1. Emotional Healing
Your shadow isn’t a separated entity, it’s apart of you. So through shadow work barrier s of emotional healing can be broken through. I like to prioritize emotional processing before healing. Since, understanding what the root issue is, is just as important as solving the problem.

Who doesn’t like some good healing?

  1. Personal Growth
As more information is released about the popularization of shadow work, I’ll update this post. BUT in terms of my own personal experience shadow work has fundamentally changed how I approach my insecurities and intrusive thoughts.

Previously, one intrusive thought could be the tipping point between a good day and a bad one. But with the cultivation of my shadow work journal, handling negative emotions has been a lot more come and go.

This is impart to my adoption of my own digital shadow work journal. Structured with prompts for that good, GOOD personal growth and development.
